Abdominoplasty is the intervention that restores the appearance of the abdomen and waist. Due to alterations in the constitutional metabolism, weight loss or weight gain, or after pregnancy, there may be an increase in volume at the level of the abdomen and waist. This, together with excess skin, stretch marks and fat in the area, is a problem that today affects a significant percentage of the population.
Within the Body Contouring Surgery at STIMA, Abdominoplasty is one of the most exciting surgeries that literally changes the lives of our patients, obtaining a flat, taut and slender abdomen in just a few hours.
At STIMA, the first step to a body contouring procedure is a detailed and personalized pre-surgical consultation. Dr. Victor Astudillo believes in the direct relationship of patient satisfaction with a clear understanding of the procedure, recovery and expectation of the results to be obtained.
We all desire a flat and toned abdomen through exercise and dieting. Unfortunately in many occasions these methods are not enough to achieve our goals, in fact most patients present separation and distension of the abdominal muscles, excess skin and fatty tissue.
The separation of the abdominal muscles (rectus abdominis and obliques) is known as diastasis, and is secondary to weakness of the fasciae due to pregnancy, aging, previous surgeries, weight changes, abdominal wall hernias and other causes. Unfortunately the abdominal muscles are not very elastic and once they are stretched, they do not shrink or return to their previous stage.
Surgery is necessary to reconnect and tighten the muscles again in order to obtain a flat and slender abdomen.
Dr. Victor Astudillo combines different advanced techniques to achieve an abdominoplasty with natural results, keeping the scar very low, at suprapubic level below the bikini line and preventing it from widening. The skin is sutured in several layers to obtain the best possible scar. Our approach does not consist in the simple removal of skin and fat from the abdomen. The objective we seek is to achieve through the selection and appropriate combination of techniques based on a comprehensive and correct preoperative planning, to achieve a reduction of the abdomen and waist in an aesthetic and balanced way, enhancing a defined, young and harmonious shape.
There are different variations of abdominoplasty and each is aimed at correcting specific aspects. For most patients, a standard abdominoplasty consists of tightening the abdominal muscles (rectus abdominis and obliques) and removing excess skin and fat. It is important to note that if there is considerable excess fatty tissue, liposuction may be necessary to obtain an optimal result.
A mini-abdominoplasty is directed at sagging skin below the navel only. In the mini-abdominoplasty a much smaller incision is used, also above the pubis below the bikini line, not being necessary the incision around the navel which in some cases can be lowered by stretching the skin.
An extensive abdominoplasty is necessary when the excess skin is marked both at the level of the abdomen and flanks, especially in patients who have had a significant weight loss in recent years. In these cases it is necessary to extend the incision in order to correct this excess skin adequately.
Abdomioplasty is a surgical procedure that must be performed in an operating room with all the necessary safety measures, within a hospital requiring one day of admission.
It is an operation that is performed under general anesthesia or with epidural block plus sedation, so that the safety for the patient is always the maximum, with a certified anesthesiologist in the operating room at all times, in a hospital that provides all the guarantees and assurances of the case, as it is Clinica Latino.
The duration of this surgical technique can vary depending on the complexity of the intervention, but it is usually around 2 or 3 hours. If the surgery is accompanied by another procedure or intervention such as liposculpture or breast surgery, the time may increase.
The first step is to schedule an appointment at STIMA, during which Dr. Victor Astudillo will evaluate your facial anatomy and the quality of your skin and muscle structure to determine if a facelift will achieve the rejuvenating changes the patient is looking for.
There is no ideal age at which a facelift should be performed. It all depends on the degree of aging of the face. Most patients are in a range of ages between 40 and 70 years, although it can also be performed at higher ages. What is essential is that the skin of the face has a certain degree of elasticity to allow it to adapt to the repositioning of the deep structures that will be put back in place.
In our surgical practice, we are in favor of rejuvenating the face but without altering the individual anatomical features. In general what we want to achieve is a younger and healthier appearance.
Abdominoplasty should be performed only in patients with a stable weight and who do not maintain an obesity index, since the results may be compromised if there is a significant weight gain or loss after surgery. Although excess fat and skin is removed by this surgery, it is important that patients maintain a stable weight through a healthy diet and physical activity, to maintain the results of this procedure.
The results obtained by our patients are very satisfactory. In order to obtain adequate results, it is always advisable to perform a series of exercises to reduce alterations after surgery and to follow a balanced diet. The results are definitive, if the indicated guidelines are followed. In a few weeks the patient will be able to see a flat abdomen and a more toned waist.
