OTOPLASTY

EAR SURGERY

An otoplasty or ear surgery is a surgical technique that remodels the prominent ears so that they acquire a more harmonic shape with the face.

This surgical technique is performed to modify the position, shape, and size of the ears. We work to reposition the ear to a more natural position aligned with the face. In doing so, we decrease the appearance of large ears and restore naturalness to changes in the ear’s in shape, which could have been abnormal since birth or due to traumatic factors.

The main objective is to relocate the ears so they have a more balanced appearance. Otoplasty can be performed starting at 6 years of age, which is the time when the ear has practically acquired the size of the adult ear, but it is also done for many adolescents and adults. Because these alterations have an important emotional and social impact on children and adolescents, it is important to correct them as soon as possible. For many children, this disproportion is a complex issue to go through as many become the object of ridicule among peers.

The duration of this procedure ranges from 1 to 2 hours, although it can vary depending on the complexity of the intervention.

Dr. Victor Astudillo combines different techniques to achieve natural results, seeking a homogeneous correction of the upper, middle, and lower portions of the ear. Sometimes  performing reductions in the lobe or the size of the auricle to achieve their desired results.
