BLEPHAROPLASTY
(PAPILL SURGERY)

WHAT IS BLEPHAROPLASTY?

A person’s emotions are manifested through their eyes and periorbital area (the area around the eyes). Over the years, the eyelids are impacted by both internal and external factors, which can cause the area to lose expression, and generate a deformed, tired, and older look.

The thin and fragile skin of the eyelids and periorbital area is one of the first areas of the face to manifest the signs of facial aging. Dark circles, bags, drooping eyelids, and crow’s feet can be corrected with this surgery.

LOWER EYELID BLEPHAROPLASTY
“NO TOUCH” TECHNIQUE

For lower eyelid surgery, Dr. Victor Astudillo utilizes the innovative «NO TOUCH» technique developed by the American doctor Glenn Jelks, who is known worldwide for his periocular and eyelid surgeries.

Dr. Victor Astudillo’s mastery of this technique allows him to avoid artificial results such as skeletonized and overly open eyes. He ensures that the torbicularis oculi muscle is not traumatized or traversed, which means that his patients do not experience the appearance of a so-called “eye round” that can be seen after classic blepharoplasty techniques.

In our eyelid surgeries we eliminate fat pads without leaving a scar by working inside the eyelid through the pink tissue (called conjunctiva). In doing so, we avoid cutting the muscle that moves the lower eyelid. This preserves the natural setting of the eyelid. Also in this technique, we correct the tear trough (the distinct junction between the eyelid and the chick), by repositioning  the orbicularis muscle of the eye and use a micro fat  injection from the same patient.

If there is excess skin in the lower eyelid, it can be corrected with resurfacing using a fractionated CO2 laser or applying the «Pinch» technique, in which the excess skin is removed without touching the muscle.

UPPER EYELID
BLEPHAROPLASTY

As in other facial rejuvenation surgeries, pre-surgical marking of the incisions are extremely important. Dr. Víctor Astudillo places special emphasis on preoperative “marking” to ensure that the incision remains in the eyelid groove in such a way that the scar will be imperceptible just months after the surgery. After an accurate marking of the incision line in the eyelid groove, as well as measurements of the amount of skin to be removed, the excess skin and fat pads are subsequently removed or repositioned.

Some patients choose to also eliminate wrinkles from the Glabella (the area between the eyebrows). This procedure goes through the same incision to weaken the corrugator muscles, therefore producing a «permanent Botox» effect.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

The duration of the surgery of upper and lower eyelids lasts from one hour to 90 minutes. The duration will increase if accompanied by another facial rejuvenation procedure.

At STIMA, blepharoplasty and other facial rejuvenation procedures are performed under IV Sedation or General Anesthesia.

The first step is to schedule a consultation at STIMA so that Dr. Astudillo can evaluate your periocular anatomy and the effects of the facial aging process on your eyelids. In this evaluation, Dr. Astudillo will be able to inform you if this type of procedure can help you meet your goals. If you are not in Ecuador, Dr. Victor Astudillo would be happy to set up a Face Time or Skype consultation session to discuss your goals and to answer any questions you may have.
